“My Cat Has a Broken Leg and I Have No Money” What To Do
Okay I’m going to start with the bad news here – if your cat has a broken leg, this isn’t something like fleas that you can potentially take care of yourself with over-the-counter medication.
Although you definitely should try to go to the vet in that instance even, ideally, if you have no money and your cat’s leg is broken, or may be broken, sadly, you’ve got to find a way to get him or her treatment anyway, because it can be really problematic for your cat if the leg isn’t set right.
Yes, the leg will almost certainly heal on it’s own in most cases, to my knowledge, but a broken leg will likely heal wrong because the two bones that are broken apart need to be held together in the right positions to be able to heal properly, and so your cat’s broken leg can fuse together the wrong way if it’s not taken care of at a vet.
Which can be very problematic for your cat. Don’t take that chance.
So that’s the bad news, what’s the good news? You have some options when it comes to how to deal with this problem even if you don’t have a lot or any real money in your bank account.

What to Do if Your Cat Has a Broken Leg and You Have No Money
1. Call all the animal shelters in your area and see if there’s anyone who can help you.
Maybe someone has funding for these kinds of emergency situations, maybe a shelter can refer you to a vet that does handle these kinds of money-tight situations.
You really never know who you’ll come across, and the best way to find answers is to call around. Shelters have a lot of knowledge of resources in your area, so this is the place to start. Well this and simultaneously…

2. Call your vet to see what your options are.
Again, maybe your vet can’t do things affordably for you, but knows of a resource that can help you in situations like these.
Or maybe he or she could work out a payment plan for you to slowly have the money to pay for your cat’s broken bone to be reset now.
Maybe he or she even knows of another vet that might help in these kinds of situations. Ask, ask, ask!!
3. Call other vets in the area explaining the situation.
Honestly you just never know who knows something or someone who can help.
So keep calling until you’ve called them all and if that’s just not working out, or if there’s someone who will do it for you affordably, but you can’t even manage to scrape by, there’s a few last options..
4. Start a Go Fund Me for your pet and have all your friends and family share it and promote it for you.
People really and truly understand how expensive pet bills can be and you may end up with one incredibly generous donor who will pay for the bone to be reset.
You can ask your friends and family if they’d be willing to donate even just a small amount of money like a five or ten dollar bill to your cause.
You may end up with enough to cover the expense of the broken bone being taken care of completely, or get to the point where you can convince a vet to do the surgery with a payment plan for the remainder.
5. Ask friends, family, everyone and anything for help in any way they can provide it.
Just keep trying! Again you just never know who someone knows that may be able to help in some way, or who of your friends and family might be able to help in some small or big way themselves.

One of the most frustrating problems I’ve had to deal with as a pet parent is staying on top of my cats’ desire to play. While this is typically hard to do, toys like these that allow cats to play by themselves make the job one heck of a lot easier.
